Serious Play Conference and Esports Summit, August 2025
Dr. Ewa Antczak presented at this year's Serious Play Conference at the University of Rochester (August 15, 2025) on “ Using AI and Positive Psychology to Transform Harmful Behaviours in Online Gaming Communities”. She also presented at the Serious Play Esports Summit on: "The Psychology and Technology Behind Safer Gaming." (August 16, 2025).
During this sessions, Dr. Antczak shared valuable insights and practical strategies for parents and game developers to help keep children safe while gaming online. Attendees learned how behavioural science and AI technologies could help protect youth by transforming toxic online environments into positive, emotionally safe spaces.
The Serious Play Conference, now in the 18th year, is a leadership conference for professionals who embrace the idea that games can revolutionize learning. Speakers, who come from all parts of the globe, share their experience creating or using games in the corporation, classroom, healthcare institution, government and military and offer tips on how to move game-based education programs ahead. At Serious Play, attendees listen, share and participate actively in informal sessions dedicated to the discussion of the future of serious games.
The Serious Play Esports Summit was a post-conference event that gathered key stakeholders from the esports ecosystem, including coaches, teams, organizations, educators, developers, researchers, and industry professionals. Hosted at MAGIC Spell Studios on August 16, 2025, at the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), this one-day summit explored the evolving landscape of esports in education and competitive gaming. Dr. Antczak presented on: “Using AI and Positive Psychology to Transform Harmful Behaviours in Online Gaming Communities”.
XP Gaming Summit, June 2025
At the recent XP Game Summit 2025 in Toronto, Dr. Ewa Antczak took the stage to address a growing concern: the emotional risks young people face in online gaming spaces. Her talk highlighted how online toxicity — including bullying, harassment, and exclusion — is eroding the safe, creative environments developers work so hard to build. As youth spend more time socializing and expressing themselves online, the mental health impact of these digital interactions is becoming impossible to ignore. To tackle this, Dr. Antczak introduced Felixa, an AI-powered behavior assessment tool she developed that helps identify and shift harmful patterns in online communities. Backed by psychology and driven by real-time data, Felixa offers a unique way to monitor, understand, and improve emotional safety online.
The global response has been remarkable. Felixa is now attracting the attention of international organizations and institutions interested in supporting healthy digital communities. This growing momentum shows just how urgent and universal the need is for tools like Felixa.
